Systems thinking and orange dwarves

The Orange Alternative is the name for an underground protest movement that started in Poland in the 1980′s.  Its main purpose was to offer ordinary people a peaceful, absurd and nonsensical way of opposing the authoritarian regime. People painted mythological dwarves  in orange hats on walls and pavements. This became the movement’s symbol. Systems thinking doesn’t have a collective voice, nevermind a symbol. But it is certainly a challenge to conventional authority. IF I still worked in the public sector with command and control thinkers and IF systems thinkers had a symbol,  I would be the first to get my red pen out. Deming talked about joy in work. But when the system is toxic, there is joy in subversion.
